Suriya Sudalaipandi a Computer Science Engineering graduate (2011) from Tirunelveli, a town in the South Indian state Tamil Nadu, India. She has been teaching Indian classical (also known as Carnatic), western classical vocal, piano and music theory since 2010 at Swaralaya, her home studio. She is currently preparing for auditions to pursue her Masters in Voice Performance. She is a Honors President Scholar at the Rock Creek School of Music, Portland Community College (PCC) where she did her Associate of arts as a Voice major in 2018. She is trained in Carnatic from the University of Madras (2013). She did her Western Classical music certification from the renowned KM Music Conservatory, India (2010) owned by Academy Award winning composer AR Rahman. She has also done certifications from Associated Board of Royal School of Music (ABRSM) and Trinity Guild Hall specializing in Voice, Piano, and Music Theory. She has trained students to appear for grade exams conducted by ABRSM and Trinity Guild Hall. She has also been performing and providing opportunities for her students to perform as a soloist and in chorus. She has coordinated various cultural events through Swaralaya. She has written a book named “Basics of Carnatic Music” highlighting its fundamentals. She also has a Carnatic Music tutoring YouTube channel

Although an Engineering graduate, she developed a strong penchant for the art of music since her childhood. Her tryst with music started with learning Carnatic as a child, while also exploring various other genres. She has been broadening her spectrum by learning western classical voice and piano. With her diverse experience, she aims to ease the learning experience of music with a blend of best techniques from different cultures.
